DJ Schu at the opening of PLAY on Friday night
The past weekend was jammed packed with a number of openings, parties, and events. And so, as is the iSPYCINCY way, I had my fair shake of experiences. In the words of Barney Stinson, “it was LEGEN… wait for it… DARY!”
Friday 7:07 p.m.
Frank Marzullo of Fox 19 and Baba Charles Miller performing the drum call
Music Hall: The Peaslee Neighborhood Center in OTR serves to foster creative expression, self-determination, and social change. Fox 19′s Frank Marzullo emceed the fantastic event which celebrated the gift of storytelling and was a happy propeller for all of us as we embark on the holiday season.
Friday 8:21 p.m.
slick looking set up in the Jimmy G’s bar
Jimmy G’s: The boys that brought us FB’s and Lunar are taking on the restaurant scene in the former Wah Mee space located on Elm Street. The actual restaurant is below street level which gives it an underground New York City vibe. The restaurateurs are shooting for a steak house with a sophisticated twist of original designs both in the interior stylings and culinary creations. I was fortunate enough to enjoy a sneak peak cocktail hour and test out some delicious lamb kabob appetizers. The real opening is this coming Wednesday. I think WeVi (west of Vine) is in for a treat.
Friday 10:46 p.m.

PLAY: Seth Weiner and Sean Herron of Self Diploma have partnered with Jeff Sosna, another Cincy native, to open up PLAY, a new bar/lounge/event space in the former Lodge Bar. Opening weekend door proceeds were to benefit the Lindner Center of HOPE. Already giving back to the community, and you know how we love that!!! The place was hopping and bopping to the beats of DJ Schu. We look forward to seeing what sort of musical acts these boys can bring to the table. Is Justin Timberlake dreaming too big? I hope not.
line was still out the door when I left
Saturday 8:13 p.m.
every time I thought the crowd would die down a new influx of people walked through the doors
Sloane Boutique: Ohio State University graduate, Duru Armagan, like so many bright eyed ambitious generation x or y’ers (whatever we are called these days) set her mind to open a boutique. And guess what? She did. The store, located in between The Senate and A Tavola in OTR, appeals to mostly the female clientele but does sport some Artfully Disheveled ties and pocket squares. I probably did more chatting than shopping, but I know a return trip is in order.
Saturday 10:31 p.m.
I don’t think this place has seen a slow night since it opened
A Tavola: I was in such close proximity I figured why not make a pit stop. One glass of Kentucky Bourbon beer and one piece of soppressata pizza later I was feeling pretty pretty pretty good.
Saturday 11:39 p.m.
Forever Young: Scott Sheridan’s bday party at FB’s. I actually didn’t make it to the party, but from the comments I’ve read on facebook the morning after… ”Dom & Denim,” “That party was awesome,” and “Occupy Margaritas” I can only imagine the craziness that ensued. Happy Bday Scott!
Sunday 5:15 p.m.
Wounded Warrior Bar Extravaganza: At Embers Restaurant to celebrate the opening of the expanded bar, a $50 suggested donation went to benefit wounded war veterans and their families. I sported a new BCBG dress, triple layered gold necklace and went a little overboard in the Framester photo booth, but hey, “I like to party for a cause!” Damn skippy.
notice the new yellow booths against the wall. sa – weet!
Jon Zipperstein and Walt Howard
Sunday 10:00 p.m.
Homeland: At last, relaxing on the couch to the sights and sounds of the best new show of the fall. Carrie you may be a little off your rocker, but we can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
Monday 9:02 a.m.
Thanksgiving week here we come. If I don’t see you at the Vault Party on Wednesday, at Teller’s of Hyde Park, then I wish you well. Otherwise — Eat, drink and be merry!
