In light of the upcoming official (and I mean official) start to summer, i.e., the summer solstice, we’ve spied three great cocktails to get you through the hot and humid misery known as death valley in the Nasti Nati. Besides a slip n’ slide or water gun fight, the best way to combat the steam bath is with a refreshing liquid libation. We spoke with Thomas Baker, resident bartender at Embers Restaurant, for his recommendations.

LA PRINCESSA – Cazadores Reposado, Strawberry, Mint, Soda

The La Princessa melds subtle, yet smoky characteristics of reposado tequila with the sweetness of summer strawberry and brightness of fresh mint to concoct a playful rift on a summertime favorite — the margarita.

ITALIAN GREYHOUND – Gin, Aperol, Grapefruit, Rosemary Sugar

The Italian Greyhound is an interpretation of the classic drink, the Salty Dog, where the aperol and the grapefruit juice play together nicely while the herbatious notes of the rosemary sugar on the rim of the glass add depth and character.

AROUND THE WORLD – Vodka, St. Germain, Agave, Yuzu, Soda

Capturing qualities from many different countries, the around the world blends predominant flavors of elder flower, japanese yuzu, and mexican agave nectar into a crisp summer refreshment.

Considering that the upcoming five day forecast includes multiple days in the 90s, I hope I’m not being too presumptuous when I say, “see you at the bar!”
