October 8, 2012
It’s a taste of the rainbow explosion. That’s what I’d call The Color Run – a colorful and crazy mess of a good time. Over 10,000 participants - in this sold out Oct. 6th race – sported all white on Saturday morning. By the end of the 5k course, which led the white clad runners through downtown Cincinnati, they were doused in a myriad of Roy G. Biv food grade corn starch.
The smiles were abound, the sun was shining, and the happiest 5k on the planet struck again. With 50 cities on the 2012 race schedule at a minimum of $35 per runner… well, I’m no math major, but that’s certainly not chump change.
Races like these are the fad. Think The Warrior Dash, The Tough Mudder, and now The Color Run. It’s a simple concept: make running fun. Of course, I still prefer to walk. I mean really, who doesn’t? Even though these races appear to be raking in the big bucks, there is a do-gooder aspect to the event, at least that’s the case for The Color Run. A portion of the proceeds from the run benefit a local charity. For the Cincy race, the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society was the benefactor.
Now for a self-orchestrated caption contest, here are the photos you’ve been waiting for…

FIRST ONE BITES THE DUST
Victim of the yellow spray can. As long as it’s not one of those terrible towels I’ll allow it.
HERE COMES THE BRIDE
All white before the run. That wouldn’t last.

TWO-FACE

On the left, we have two girls living the dream and posing for the classic mid-jump pic. On the right we have, “really mom, really. This is why you dragged me out of bed? I do love my rainbow socks, though.”
THE COLOR WARRIOR
Nothing says badass female runner like the pigtail braids.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
All smiles after completing the race
skittle-tastic
COLOR EXPLOSION
And BOOM goes the dynamite. After the run, the participants gather for one final color blast.
