As someone who only gets her hair cut once a year, I clearly don’t put that much that thought into styling my do. After seeing close to 30 intricately designed looks that celebrated the tangled, teased, and high profile world of hair, I may have to rethink such apathy.
and this is when the crowd had thinned out, just imagine how it was during the actual fashion show
Building on the success of the Carnegie’s ever popular Art of Food exhibition, the Carnegie kicked off its latest series, The Art of Hair, with a fully energized and interactive fashion show on Sunday afternoon. The opening reception took place from 3-6 p.m. with the fashion show slated for a 4 p.m. start. I arrived just before four to such a crowded house that I gained full extent of the expression “packed in like sardines.”
I politely made my way to the hitching post where the models waited before their ferocious trip down the catwalk. Meow.
Salons like Identity and Salon Urbanity, among others, had a hand in styling the models for the runway, but I couldn’t help but wonder if this was somehow the brainchild of the Zohan, as in You Don’t Mess With the Zohan. Either way, the show was fantastic.

The exhibition runs now through February 10. Patrons will enjoy combing over a unique collection of artwork by artists Adrienne Antonson, Hong Chun Zhang, Laura Hartford, Akinya Howard, Matt Wiseman and Jennifer Zimmerman, all inspired by, and/or made from hair. The show will also include an exhibition of hair related collectible items on loan from the P & G archives as well as a silent auction of Barbie Style Heads that have been artistically made over by popular local artists.
