Oh, you know...
Just another lovely summer day in Cincy. Complete with games, community, drinks, and snacks (not to mention the most amenable, put-it-all-out-there-while-wearing-HUGE-costumes-on-a-really-hot-day mascots imaginable).
What is there to say, really? It was a pretty great day.
The Dodgeball Challenge (sponsored by TQL and hosted by the Professional Leadership Network) was a total hit. Jumping from last year's total of 60 or so teams, to this year's approximately 80 (nice jump, gang!), the event pulled in $80,000 in support for the Dan Beard Council - Boy Scouts of America.
Those funds will be channeled into sending over 500 underserved young folks to camp. (Where they, too, can enjoy the terrifying, addictive joy of hurling that almost palm-able yellow ball at strangers. Or friends. Either works.)
...Though if you're going for maximum hilarity, the best bet is to invite some giant bobble-headed mascots. Automatic giggles.
We'll let the rest of the experience tell its own story. In pictures. (Enjoy!)
THE BIGGEST WINNERS
The Youth of Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Great cause. Great job. Great time! (Congrats!)
Tom Dugger & son Joseph.
MOST INTIMIDATING POSE
These dudes. Seriously. It's like The Expendables 4 (The Prequel) up in here.
Eli Garland, Myles Petretti, & Vince Williams
And speaking of action flicks...
MOST REMINISCENT OF TOP GUN
That, by the way, is pretty much the biggest compliment. This team (aka "The Freedom Fighters") totally set the bar when it comes to fun-with-uniforms. Amuhrica! Heck Yeah.
The Freedom Fighters
MOST UNCOMFORTABLE IN PICTURES:
Benelli the dog (who promptly skulked away after this pic).
Poor Benelli. Everybody has a self-conscious day every now & again. We totally get it. (But maybe take a note from your buddy, Bear, and human, Maggie... They seem to be feelin' just fine.)
Maggie Kosch (Benelli & Bear)
MOST APPRECIATED REFRESHMENT VENDORS
TIE! - The Leinenkugel crew & Street Pops lady
Thanks for keeping everybody hydrated and libated.
(& Yes, "libated" is a word. ... Its home may be on the street and not in some fancy dictionary. But it's a word, dangit!)
Molly Carnes, Katelyn Snyder, Justin Stock, & Tom Trebes
BEST DRESSED ( / MOST OUT-OF-PLACE BECAUSE THEY'RE SO WELL-DRESSED)
I mean, c'mon! Are y'all trying to make us feel bad?!
We're all walking around in grass-stained workout gear. & You three... Y'all look like the behind-the-scenes of a daggum J.Crew catalogue!
Okay, seriously. You look great! (See ya later, perhaps in the "June's Best Dressed" list... !)
Hannah Scheper, Andy Scheper, & Annie Kleykamp
MOST WORTHY OF THEME MUSIC & A SLOW-MOTION ENTRANCE
I mean, I feel like I'm watching Reservoir Dogs right now.
(from left): The Flying Pic, Mr. Red, Big Boy, Rosie Red, Binny Rumpke, Gapper, & Mr. Redlegs
MOST EFFECTIVE TAUNT
What are we, in fifth grade?
(Well, yes. Today we are. ... Plus, it totally worked. His team did indeed win. Nice work, Redlegs.)
Not sure what kind of quantum physics, Fibonacci-level math they're gettin' into here, but these folks were definitely making it happen. (Thanks for bringing' the fun to the people, gang!)
The "Making-It-Happen" Squad, 2014
And a phenomenal time was had by all!
Additional props to the Urban Grill Food Truck, The Chili Hut food truck, and Currito burritos for keeping the crowd well-fueled. And, of course, a huge thanks to TQL and PLN for putting this event together. (And for letting all of us "grown-ups" go back to camp. ... Even if for a day.)
PS: Go, Dan Beard Council!
Wanna see what else is poppin' these days?
